Essilor has been in Ireland since 1973 when a glass manufacturing facility was first established in Limerick which is still operating today, exporting semi-finished lenses worldwide.

In 1984 Essilor Ireland Sales was established to service the needs of Irish Opticians. Today this company is one of the leading optical suppliers in Ireland for high-tech ophthalmic lenses, instruments and glazing services.

In 1991, Essilor opened a plant in Ennis known as Organic Lens Manufacturing. Using the very latest technology to manufacture plastic semi-finished ophthalmic lens products, most notably Varilux, the worlds leading progressive lens.

Essilor now employs over 300 people in Ireland
