The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) was established as a commercial state-sponsored body in 1994. It is responsible for the provision of air traffic management services in Irish-controlled airspace and the safety regulation of the Irish civil aviation industry. The IAA safety regulatory services include: - Aircraft airworthiness certification and registration
- The licensing of personnel and organisations involved in aircraft maintenance
- The licensing of pilots, air traffic controllers and aerodromes
- The approval and surveillance of air carrier operating standards. The IAA ensures that Irish civil aviation operates to safety standards set internationally and also provides training and consultancy services to a wide range of international clients.
The IAA employs almost 650 staff, comprising Air Traffic Controllers, Engineers, Radio Officers, Instructors, Data Assistants, Safety Regulators and Administration staff. Its main locations are: - Air Traffic Control Centres at Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports and Ballycasey, Co. Clare.
