Find out more about the world of temping from the people who know it best....

Let’s set the scene. You’ve arrived at the venue. Dressed in your Sunday best, nerves going ninety, ready to impress and armed with questions to find out as much as you can before you say yes to any new, exciting and sometimes challenging ventures.

But imagine it’s not based on finding yourself a new love life but instead you’re searching for a new opportunity with recruiters who specialise in temporary Office Support recruitment? What is it that you would really like to know?

To the many people who are recent graduates, mothers returning to work after welcoming a new baby, expats returning back to the motherland and people who are unfamiliar with the world of temporary work - temporary assignments can be seen as something uncertain and many don’t understand or know the benefits temporary work can bring.

It’s okay if you don’t know what we do, we get asked many questions every day about our temporary assignments. Without listing out every single one of them, here are the top three most frequently asked questions we come across on a daily basis here at La Crème:

1. How temping works.
A temporary role becomes available when one of our clients contacts us with a short or long term position. The reasons behind the temporary position can be anything from covering annual leave, sick leave, an extra pair of hands needed on a project basis or to help bridge a gap while recruiting for a permanent position.

The first step for temporary roles is to ensure you are registered with La Crème. Our registration process allows us to fully understand your experience and what your aspirations are going forward.

Our goal then is to best match your experience to what the client is looking for and to ensure everyone involved has a positive temporary experience.

2.Benefits of temping.
The benefits attached to temping are never-ending. For many who are new to the market or people who have worked in the one sector for a number of years, temping can be a fantastic way to see where your skillset best lies and to even showcase your skill set to new employers. The world is a small place and Cork is even smaller. You never know who you could meet on a temporary assignment and it’s the easiest way to help grow your network.

Here in La Crème we always have the inside track on who's hiring and what skill set they are looking for so this allows us to create the perfect career opportunity for you. It’s no secret that temporary assignments can lead into a long and fruitful career on a more permanent basis and the key player in all of this is you. You get to showcase your capabilities and prove to them you’re a great addition to the company.

The cherry on top with temporary roles is that you come with a seal of approval from us. Clients know we work with the best and give them the best talent. So when you’re being represented by La Crème, you’re already miles ahead of a direct applicant.

3.Who pays my wages & what am I entitled to?
As it’s our responsibility to provide temporary support staff to clients, it’s the agency who will pay your wages on a weekly basis.

Temporary assignments offer flexible working hours i.e. 37.5 hours per week or 35 hours per week. Your hourly rate will be outlined from the beginning and your weekly wage will be determined from the hours worked. To ensure you get paid for the correct amount of hours worked, you will be given access to an online portal, where the hours you submit will be approved by the client.

The most common question we get asked is if you are entitled to holidays. Of course you are. We all need a bit of sunshine. Your holiday balance will be accrued over the amount of time you are in temporary work and you also get paid for any public holidays.

In short, temporary assignments are the best way to test different avenues and also you can help regain your confidence in returning to the workforce if you’ve taken some time out.
Still not sure if temp life is for you? We’re a sound bunch working on the temporary desk so don’t be afraid to give us a call to find out more!
